On her 22nd birthday, Lu Jiu, who was sitting on the sixth-floor railing pondering life, suddenly regained memories of her past life the moment she was tackled to the ground by a police officer. She then realized that she was living in a novel set in the early 2000s. She wasn’t the protagonist, nor even a supporting character, but instead, a minor villainess destined to be corrupted by her unrequited love for her childhood friend.

In the original story, the male lead and Lu Jiu, the minor villainess, grew up together. Three months after their engagement, he meets a pure and lovely girl who becomes his true love. On one side is the childhood friend he’s cherished for twenty years, and on the other is the woman who teaches him the true meaning of love. The male lead hesitates and wavers between them.

Lu Jiu, who has just regained her clarity, realizes that she hasn’t yet descended into darkness or twisted herself for the sake of a man. Though she doesn’t understand why, with her family’s wealth and her own beauty, she should waste her time on a scumbag. Her top priority now is to break off the engagement. The story features a stunningly beautiful peony flower demoness who grows more gorgeous by the day and loves wearing qipaos, paired with a tough, muscular, hormone-driven, taciturn captain of the criminal investigation team.

This is not a strong female lead story. The female lead was a flower demon in her past life and can only cultivate a few minor spells in this life, mostly insignificant. The original story’s male and female leads are dark characters, and even a groveling pursuit cannot win back the love interest. The setting is roughly in the early 2000s, with some creative liberties. The male and female leads have a seven-year age difference.
