Iris’s brother and sister were both geniuses. People loved her brother because he was a genius and adored her sister for being lovely. Iris, on the other hand, was a plain second child who was neither a genius nor lovable. Even though Iris covered for her brother’s mistakes and endured her sister’s mischief, no one acknowledged her. If they were shining protagonists like the sun, Iris was a forsaken star all alone. But one person noticed her.
“I heard you’re a genius knight. Rumors are always exaggerated,” said the person who effortlessly subdued her brother, who was boastful and aggressive. Cedric Leonthaim, the Duke of the North, where sinister rumors circulated about his temperament and how he couldn’t sleep unless he slit someone’s throat.
“You don’t have to smile for anyone, try for anyone, live desperately, or swallow tears every night,” he said to Iris, who crouched in a corner crying.
“So, cry in my arms, Iris,” he said, even in his dying moments.
Vowing as she cried in the arms of her beloved, who was growing cold, Iris promised, ‘I will protect you. I will protect you, who saved me.’ And so, Iris returned.
